Saturday 27th August was the date chosen for Total9ball’s 7th edition of the 2016 Dynamic Billard Amateur Series. This event was once again held at the Raging Ball St Albans. This was an important event for all players with the race to become the T9B number one ranked player hotting up and the number of spaces remaining in the Champion Of Champions event now extremely limited each event is crucial. Matches got underway at 10.30am and with the handicaps being the fairest they have ever been there was inevitably lots of close matches. The most recent T9B champion was Mark Parker after he seemed back in full form whilst winning the T9B UK Ten Ball Championship just a couple of weeks ago. Mark Parker of Clacton-On-Sea began this event with two good confidence boosting results as he defeated Chris Parker 7v3 and then Michael Beeston 7v4. Phil Wildman’s event didn’t begin well a defeat by Chris Parker 7v2 and a new cue needed for Wildman as his World War Two Predator snapped. Current rankings leader Steve Chick was once again putting together a fantastic run with two 7v5 opening round wins against David Worrow and Jaspal Bamotra. It was good to see Wayne Rooke back in action but today wasn’t to be his an untimely scratch on the 9ball at hill-hill against Mark Newell cost him and a 7v4 defeat against his travelling companion Jaspal Bamotra ended his event early. Paul Taylor didn’t have the best of run as he was pushed out of the event with two dreaded 7v6 defeats, Dave Worrow and Micheal Beeston didn’t mind though. Martyn Taylor made a great start in this event winning 7v2 against GJ and 7v6 against Dmitry Mitia.
16 players remained and the results from this round are below:-
Mark Newell 1v7 Steve Chick
Dave Worrow 5v7 Martyn Taylor
Chris Parker 6v7 Mark Parker
Steve Davison 5v7 Nick Hampton
GJ 3v7 Martyn Taylor x2
Nick Hampton x2 5v7 Steve Chick x2
Phil Wildman 0v7 Mark Parker
Jaspal Bamotra 5v7 Michael Beeston
So as you can see from the above results at the Quarter Finals of this event, Mark Parker, Martyn Taylor and Steve Chick all had both lives remaining and were still on course to takedown the Guaranteed £500 Jackpot.
At this stage of the event the T9B break dish took centre stage,
So the Quarter Finals were upon us and with the standard of players remaining in the tournament there was sure to be some great matches ahead. Three players still on for the £500 Jackpot and now just four wins away. Unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be as although each of these players made it to the Semi-Finals they all lost one Quarter Final match and therefore the jackpot dream was gone for another event. Mark Parker reported an impressive 7v2 win over Micheal Beeston but was destroyed 7v1 by Nick Hampton. Steve Chick drew Martyn Taylor in both halves of the draw and it was one win a piece and an aggregate score of 11v11 as both matches ended 7v4.
Due to the results in the Quarter Finals this meant the competition had a straight forward Semi Final line up with four players involved Mark Parker took on Martyn Taylor while Nick Hampton did battle with Steve Chick. Both Semi-Final matches ended 7 racks to 3 with Mark Parker and Steve Chick prevailing to the Final setting up a repeat of the last events final between the same players. Could Steve get revenge and finally score an invite to the Champion Of Champions event? NO was the answer as Mark Parker was on fire and again Steve Chick couldn’t put together a performance in the Final to match his form through-out the event. Mark quickly took control of the Final and once he grabbed the lead he raced clear to an excellent 7v1 victory.
Another quite brilliant tournament put together by Total9ball, some great players on show and the players seemed to enjoy the day win or lose, I believe due to fun atmosphere. Steve Chick is again the runner up but wow he is simply getting better and better at each event, the handicapper can’t keep up with his improvements!! He leads the Total9ball Amateur Series rankings after 7 of the scheduled 9 events. Can anybody catch him? remember T9B take the best 7 results for the end of season rankings. I think we can safely say Mark Parker is well and truly back in form and perhaps back to his best. Mark has now taken the big prize at the last two events and it’s great to see him back in form. Speak with Mark after the event he puts his success down to two key points a happy personal life and his diet, Mark has lost over 2 stone and says this must be contributing to his current form. So I guess it’s fair to say there is no more Mark Porker as Mark Parker returns and at times looks unbeatable.
Thanks to our Sponsors, County Engraving, Dynamic Billard, Raging Ball, Talismann Tips and Z9 Billard Cloth Germany. Also thanks to all players who attended this event and we hope to see you all back for our next event which will be Dynamic Billard Amateur Series event 8.
