Morray, Morray, Morray, OI, OI, OI!!!!!

Total9ball was back in action on Saturday 17th July 2016 at The fabulous Raging Ball venue in St.Albans. This was event six of the 2016 Dynamic Billard Amateur series. Players were competing for prize money, crucial ranking points and a space in the end of season Champion Of Champions event (free entry event with a guaranteed £2000 prize pool). Going into event six the top of the rankings couldn’t be much closer with Steve Chick leading the way on 42 points just two points clear of second placed Mark Newell. Remember at the end of the season players ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd will receive a pay out of £250, £150 or £100. Remember it’s the best 8 results from 10 that count towards the final ranking list.

Before the event four players handicaps were changed due to success in prior events they were Chris Parker, Steve Chick and Wayne Rooke to 0 and Mark Newell to +1 it would be interesting to see how these players event went now there playing at a higher level.

The Dynamic Billard Amateur Series Event 6 kicked off at 10am on Saturday and the first round saw some brilliant and very close matches.  Wayne Rooke took on Dave Worrow and the match ended 7v6 in favour of Mr Rooke, Paul Taylor was also involved in an early hill-hill match as he got the better of Ben Bradley 7v6 while Morray Dolan defeated Phil Wildman 7v6 in a classic match of high quality from start to finish, Mark Newell produced a good performance of his new handicap defeating Mr Breakdish… Michael £650 Beeston 7v5. Other results saw Wayne Rooke defeat Mikko Tuomi 7v4 and Tom Staveley played well to beat rankings leader Steve Chick by the same score line.

Into the first round proper, Morray Dolan looked like he was starting to produce the form we all know he is capable of as he recorded two winning results against Luke Rollison 7v3 and Mark Newell 7v6. Wayne Rooke was defeated 7v1 by Mark Parker but then bounced straight back with a great 7v4 win again Tom Staveley. Paul Taylor was really pushed in this round but came out on top in both matches 7v5 against Lazslo Zsom and 7v6 against Dave Worrow (Dave seemed to be playing some great stuff but it just wasn’t his day two 7v6 defeats) Chris Parker took out Veso Papradanov 7v5 while Luke Rollison battled to the hill and beyond to defeat Mark parker 7v6. Phil Wildman looked to be back in some kind of form as he dropped just two racks while winning 11 against Mikko Tuomi. Mark Newell was involved in another 7v6 result as he won through again GJ and Veso from 6v0 up against Tom Staveley let Tom get back to 6v6 before finishing the match after a missed 9ball by Staveley in the decider!

Break dish time and T9B after Michael Beeston scooped a cool £650 at the last event sponsored the break dish £200 to get the ball rolling again. Players were offered the chance to be one of the lucky players picked to step up and shoot 10ball for £20 a ball with a bonus for the total clearance. First up was Dmitry Mitia but unfortunately it was a powerful but dry break, next up to attempt to take down the break dish was Tom Staveley… Tom is known for having a well control 10ball break and the pot was certainly in danger again, Tom broke the balls sinking two in the process and £40 was announced after Tom stopped the white in the centre of the table he was very unlucky to be hooked on the next legal ball, Tom collected £40. A final player was call to take on the break dish at £5 per ball with a £50 bonus for the clearance and that player was Nick Hampton, again Nick hit a strong break dropping two balls in but again the break dish curse struck again leaving Nick hooked too, Nick collected £10. All remaining money will roll over to the next event.

The event was now in full swing and we were into the last 16 of the competition. Morray Dolan, Nick Hampton and Paul Taylor still had two lives going into this round because of the format of the tournament this report is written based on how the results show rather than the order of matches. Phil Wildman battled back from 6v2 behind  to defeat Morray Dolan 7v6 (Match actually played earlier in the day) Morray did keep his event alive by ending Wayne Rooke’s day 7v5, Paul Taylor seemed to be on fire as he produced to more classy results beating Mark Parker 7v2 and Dmitry Mitia seven racks to four. Nick won one and lost one in this round, the bad news was a 7v6 defeat to Steve Chick but the good news was a brilliant 7v5 victory against Luke Rollison.  Mark Newell was getting good at winner deciding racks and he did it again ending Veso’s event 7v6.

Dynamic Billard Amateur Series Quarter Final results are below:-

Paul Taylor 5v7 Steve Chick (Taylor’s Jackpot dreams are ended while Steve Chick looks an even better player off his new handicap)

Phil Wildman 7v4 Nark Newell (Good to see Wildman back to somewhere near his best but this was the end of the road for Newell)

Morray Dolan 7v2 Paul Taylor (Morray seems to hit top gear as he destroys an in form Paul Taylor)

Nick Hampton 5v1 Chris Parker (Unfortunately Chris Parker withdraws as unhappy with his new handicap even though he reached the Quarter Finals)

A very strong looking Semi Final line up at this event as Ranking leader Steve Chick takes on top of the handicaps Phil Wildman while Morray Dolan would take on Champion Of Champions player Nick Hampton. Phil produced the start that was needed in his match against Steve Chick taking a 3v2 lead in racks after beginning the match off -4 but then out of nowhere Steve Chick finds the form he has shown all season winning the next five racks to book his place in the Final but who would join him? Morray Dolan puts in a professional performance as he trounced Nick Hampton 7v2.

So here we go a fantastic Final was about to begin and neither player has yet qualified for the showpiece event the Champion Of Champions so it was all to play for. Morray began this match off -2 racks and if both players could produce their best then we were in for a treat. Unfortunately Steve Chick had abit of an up and down day form wise and didn’t produce what he could in the final but this didn’t stop Morray producing some delightful 9ball pool. Very well done to Morray Dolan for first i’d assume of many T9B tournament wins. Also a big congratulations to Steve Chick for taking the new handicap challenge on the chin an having another brilliant event.

The only handicap change after this event is Nick Hampton will drop from 0 to -1. Fair play to Nick he agreed the way he is playing he shouldn’t be off 0.

Total9ball would like to take a moment to thank all the players who supported this event, also thanks to Sharon Allingham for running the desk and to our sponsors Dynamic Billard, Raging Ball, Taom Tips, Talisman, Z9 cloth made in Germany  and County Engraving.
